 Two Signature Events

Band Together for Nelson House

Timed to commemorate the International Women’s Day in March, Band Together for Nelson House celebrates women empowerment. The fundraiser is a fun filled musical night hosted in the rustic setting of Julian of Norwich Anglican Church in Ottawa. The Verdict, a nine piece rock n’ roll band that describes itself as a band (mostly) comprised of (mostly) hard working Ottawa lawyers-by-day-musicians-by-night create magic with their music. The event is a wonderful celebration, complete with rock n’ roll music, dancing, delicious hors d’oeuvres and cash bar.

Launched in 2017, this event is dedicated to raising funds for women fleeing domestic violence. Nelson House provides a confidential, safe and secure emergency shelter for women. The shelter staff assist and advocate for women to access the services and support they need including housing, medical, immigration, employment, and educational services. While also working towards a more equal society where the inherent value of all women is recognized and celebrated.

A Salute & Tribute Dinner

Our celebratory annual Fall Tribute dinner launched in 2017, is held to salute and pay a tribute to a women whose leadership has been fundamental to building a brighter future and a more equitable society for all of us. The event celebrates their hard work and contributions inspire others to take a leading role in their community. We have been fortunate to have honoured Former Councillor Mrs. Marlene Catterall, Retired Deputy Chief Officer Jill Skinner and a very proud Canadian, Maureen McTeer.

The event is held mostly in November. Every year, November is Domestic Violence Awareness Month in Canada.
